Nagasaki Anime Film on Atom Bomb to Show in New York

The Nagasaki 1945 ~ The Angelus Bells film on the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan will screen in New York City on October 25 at 1:00 p.m. ET in a hall in the United Nations Headquarters’ library as part of the organization’s Disarmament Week. Seiji Arihara’s movie is based on a true story of a doctor who worked in the aftermath of the second nuclear bombing of World War II. Arihara also directed Raiyantsuuri no Uta (Song of Liang Chu Li), a film which acknowledged Japan’s occupation of China and prisoner-of-war camps. Source: The Nishinippon Shimbun

Book on Underground Manga Given Authorized Translation

The ComiPress manga information site is posting online an authorized English translation of Manga Zombie, a 1997 book by “subculture researcher” Takeo Udagawa on 31 artists that created underground manga after World War II, but before widespread commercialization changed the field in the Eighties. Translator John Gallagher will post chapters from the 186-page book on a semi-regular basis. The profiled fringe artists include Norihiro Nakajima (Astro Ky?dan/Astro Baseball Team), Yoshiteru Takano (Akanb? Teikoku/Baby Empire), and Tar? Bonten (Konketsuji/Mixed-Blood Child Rika).

Saiyuki Reload Burial OVA 2’s Promo Video Posted

The Animate TV website has posted a four-minute promotional video (narrowband or broadband) for the second volume of the Saiyuki Reload: Burial video prequel to the Saiyuki mythological adventure series. ADV Films released the first Saiyuki television series, and Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc. released the Saiyuki Reload and Saiyuki Reload Gunlock series. Although the Burial prequel has not been licensed for North America yet, Geneon USA’s parent company Dentsu Inc. produced it and the previous Saiyuki anime projects.
